Molly's Movie Blog

A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what`s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later

Daniel Craig Up for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

Most people I've talked to about this story (Hollywood makes its move on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) feel that the film should not be a remake considering the original film directed by Niels Arden Oplev starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Nivqvist was so well done. Fantastically intense and suspenseful. Why bother? But the story is too good for Hollywood to pass up. I get it.
So for all of us dedicated fans of the books and films (second film opens in July) we musth join in on the Hollywood ride and cast the film for them, no?  The important questions are who will play the leads? What Hollywood actress will play Lisbeth Salander? Finally a new and improved modern day heroine we can get excited about. The last was Clarice Starling (The Silence of the Lambs) I hope they don't screw this up. Noomi Rapace who played the original role of Lisbeth Salander did a tremendous job in the role that's it's inconceivable that anyone else would play her. The article below from www.screencrave.com is suggesting Carey Mulligan (An Education) IM not convinced yet. But interestingly surprised. David Fincher is attached to direct. This is a step in the right direction, I hope. Another good choice to direct is Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton). The latest news is Daniel Craig to play Mikael Blomqvist. This is perfect casting. IM very happy with this choice. What do you think?

Now that James Bond has been given the shaft my MGM Daniel Craig’s schedule has cleared up. He’s still prepping for Jon Favreau’sCowboys & Aliens but there’s plenty of room for him to tackle more material. According to a report from The Wrap, The British actor is in early talks to star in the Hollywood adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
We previously learned that David Fincherwill direct the film that Sony will produce based on the popular Swedish trilogy. The studio claims that no official offer is on the table but The Wrap says that Craig is “nearing a deal.” If he takes the part he’ll play a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist who is looking for the missing woman, Harriet Banger.
Plenty of talented Hollywood actresses have expressed interest in playing the part of Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker who helps the journalist with his investigation. One of the most notable candidates for the part is Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan. Nothing has been solidified on the Lisbeth front but sources say that Fincher and Craig are scheduled to meet over the next couple of days to discuss his involvement.
There are a lot of people who are against this movie being made, which is understandable. BUT if the studio is going to adapt it regardless of the general consensus wouldn’t you rather it be with Fincher, Craig, and possibly Mulligan than some hack director and two talentless actors?

  4. Apparently my ability to function at leaving comments is rather annoying. Third time the charm? I have called your show in the past but I thought that I would check out your blogs after you spoke of them yesterday they look good. I have never read the books but Daniel Craig is a great actor and it would be nice to see him get more work.
